Blaise Bailey Finnegan III | Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Tonight I was putting the four Godspeed albums onto a flash drive for a friend of mine who asked me forever ago to hook him up with their music. In the process, I thought it’d be cool to make a CD in addition to that, which would contain the best of their non-album material (in my opinion). Filling up the entire disc took four tracks (lol), including two live cuts and two radio sessions (including the one that shares a name with the title of this post). It was exciting.
I haven’t seriously listened to Godspeed since summer, really, which has worried me a lot. I don’t know why - I think I’m afraid that getting back into them would never live up to my impossibly high expectations, or that no matter how much time I’d set aside to listen again, the listening environment wouldn’t be just right. Either way, I’ve started to drift away, much to my dismay … and then tonight, as I sat in my room throwing this thing together, it all started coming back to me. I remembered why I first fell in love with them, which is an absolutely unbelievable feeling.
I’m listening to ‘Monheim’ as I type this, my heart on the verge of exploding with happiness. I wish I could explain this better.
Indian Summer - Angry Son
I think it’s an Indian Summer type of day, today.
